April Steel Production

According to the International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI), total world crude steel production was up 5.6% from the same period in 2007.

Growth in the EU and CIS was flat while North America grew production grew 2.5%.  Asia grew at 8.7% led by China’s growth of over 4 million metric tons or 10.2%.

On an annualized basis, China’s rate of production growth is 11.0%, down from 20.6% in the same period in 2007.  China remains the world’s largest producer of steel, making more than the EU, CIS and North America combined.
